2012 Color Trends for your Home

November 30, 2011

As we quickly approach 2012, it is the time of year when nearly every industry begins to make predictions for the upcoming year. In the design industry, these predictions often revolve around color trends for your home.

Whether you are planning to build or buy a new home within the next year or just spruce up your current house, choosing paint and accent colors can be some of the most fun aspects of personalizing your home. That being said, they can also be difficult and stressful decisions to make.

Sherwin Williams Color Mix 2012 is a great online resource for viewing the trendiest shades within all your favorite color groups and downloading color cards of your favorites. This year they are exploring neutrals, reds, blues, and greens. Neutrals in 2012 will be inspired by raw elements such as pebbles, grain, and weathered wood.  Reds will be appearing in saturated hues such as fuchsias and red-oranges. Blues will show up in shades that reflect denim and water. Greens will be inspired by the deep tones of the sea and forest.

Sherwin Williams also developed an app for smart phones and Ipads which allows you to photograph colors you see in everyday life and immediately match them to corresponding paint colors.

If you head over to the HGTV website they have offered up advice on choosing a color palette that is right for your home.  A few of the helpful tips they provided include:

-Choose a color scheme from the largest pattern in the space. If you have patterned upholstery, a large piece of art, or an area rug that you really love, pull colors from it to use in the rest of the space to tie everything together.

-Study the color of your clothes. You buy clothes in patterns and colors you like. Look in your closet and use your favorite pieces as inspiration for your home.

-Follow your Personal Style. Decorate honestly.  People will appreciate your style because it’s you, even if they would not decorate their home in the same way.

We hope you find them to be as fun and inspiring as we do here at Otero Signature Homes. And if you decide this is the year to build, buy, or renovate, we would love to help turn your dream home into a reality.
